Hey guys, Ryan (TheRyanLamont) here and today, 14th August 2011, a kiwi has found their way onto the homepage. Of course we all know who this kiwi is, since he seems to be the only one who can gain a position on the homepage, and this kiwi is Levi (corporalcadet). It’s always uplifting to see someone from our community on the New Zealand YouTube homepage, since it is our homepage after all.
Perhaps one day more of us NZYT’ers will be able to gain a place on our country’s YouTube homepage. But at least for now we have Levi representing us on the American-dominated homepage. Below is the video that placed Levi on the homepage, his V48 Hour Film Competition entry:
Hey guys Ryan (TheRyanlamont) here, with today’s wee post! I was looking through my NZYT subscriptions, like usual, and came across one of Richmond’s (rrichiee1990) videos called “How did you become addicted to YouTube?”, which got me thinking.
I thought this would be an interesting question to pose to the NZYT community. Not necessarily how you got ‘addicted’ but how did you come across that first person you subscribed to and watched regularly, and who did you discover after that? I personally found Levi Beamish (CorporalCadet) first, on the NZ YouTube homepage with his video “Dannie Girl.” and then found Dannie (ThatEnglishGirl111) through her video “A girl in Auckland” which was also featured on the New Zealand YouTube homepage. I subscribed to both channels and became a Levi Beamish fanboy for a while, before discovering the rest of the NZYT community at that time. I then picked up a camera and decided to vlog.
I remember my YouTube beginning quite vividly, still remembering the exact video titles, YouTubers and locations I found that led me to the NZYT Community. I wonder if any of my fellow NZYT’ers have such vivd recollections of their YouTube beginnings? So now I pose the question to you NZYT, how did you find the first YouTuber you regularly watched?
Hey guys Ryan (TheRyanLamont) here, with this week’s ‘NZYT video of the week’. Now we’re all slowly building up the amount of videos on our channels and getting into the regular schedules, so some weeks there are more videos ot choose form than others. But this week I chose someone who has already won before, but with a video of such high quality it’s really hard not to make him the winner. Yes, this week’s winner is Mr, Levi Beamish (CorporalCadet) with his video ‘rewind’.
This beautifully edited video is from footage that Levi has collected over the last 3 years, and is wonderfully put together to act as a sort of trailer or memory montage for him. One of the commenters puts it rather beautifully:
“That was ridiculously beautiful to watch. I couldn’t help but feel like it was building up to something else, like a trailer. But considering this is the past, its a build up to the present, or the future. Which is just pretty fantastic.” – NamelessNymphadora
As you read through the hundreds of comments on Levi’s video you can see how his talent manages to inspire and wow hundreds of people all over the world. It is because of this ability to inspire so many others from such a simply beautiful video that I have chosen this video as ‘NZYT video of the week’ for the week of 10th-16th
Hey guys Ryan (TheRyanLamont) here with the nominees for this week’s ‘NZYT’er of the week’ [for the week of 3rd January – 9th January] Now this is the fifth week of this segment, and the fourth week of you guys being able to vote! Now since there are only a few NZYT’ers actively making awesome videos I’ve decided to put in people that have already appeared in the polls, but have not won. But I will constantly strive to promote new NZYT talent! So the nominees for this week are:
So be sure to go check out all these guys’ channels and comment saying that the NZYT Community blog sent you! (Spread the word of the blog) Then vote for who you think should be NZYT’er of the week down below:
Hey guys Ryan (TheRyanLamont) here with this week’s ‘NZYT’er of the week’ (for the week of 27th Dec – 2nd Jan) This is the fourth week of this segment, and this week I decided to choose the video – since I thought putting all the videos up and then voting for one defeated the purpose. I am very excited about this week’s ‘NZYT video of the week’ since I have long awaited the next video from this excellent video maker.
This week’s winner is Levi (CorporalCadet) with his video ‘Daphne Trouble – Life.” This cute wee video is of Levi’s Grandmother, who gives us some life advice. Daphne Trouble has appeared in a few of Levi’s video before and always entertains. I have been looking forward to Levi’s next video, since it has been a while since we saw one uploaded.
Levi is an excellent kiwi video maker, being the third most subscribed New Zealander with his 36,062 subscribers and 4,274,419 upload views. He creates masterfully edited videos, entertaining vlogs and wee character sketches too – along with music videos, short films and interviews. He inspired me to start on YouTube, and has inspired many others with his fantastically creative work. I hope to see more regular uploads from Levi in 2011 and hope to see a vlog or two, since we have not been gifted one of those in a while. It’d also be great to get Levi involved in the NZYT revival, being a core part of the community.
I hope you’ll all watch this comical video and take some of Daphne’s advice. Also, if you’re not subscribed to Levi (how could you not be?) then please do subscribe and support this awesome kiwi video maker. Hopefully we’ll be seeing a lot more of Levi in 2011!
